Dog Training Classes
We hold the kennel club good citizen dog scheme levels
bronze, silver and gold. Please see the kennel club
website for further details of the guidelines link
to the Kennel Club website
Classes are limited to small groups and where possible
have dogs of similar age and ability although everyone
works at their own pace. The more practice you put in
at home, the more you will get out of the course, and
there are 2 trainers to assist you during your training.
We use clicker training and explain how it encourages
your dog to learn and improve. (see clicker
training)

Dog courses are currently held at Locking village hall
on different evenings and at various times.
Further Training
After the bronze class owners can work through silver
and gold levels. A homework sheet is provided as all
dogs are working on different tasks and at varying levels.
The bronze help sheets that I designed have been kept
simple and easy for pet owners to read and understand.
All the training classes are designed to be fun and
interactive. I encourage owners to ask questions and
share experiences. All members of the household are
encouraged to take part in the training and be consistent;
this has helped with many mis-labelled dominance problems
where their owners have confused the youngsters.
The easy part of training is to show owners how to
train their dogs, the more challenging and fulfilling
part of my role is to teach the owners how to do the
training themselves. A lot of understanding, patience
and remaining calm are required but the results are
so rewarding.
Clicker training has been the biggest key to success
as this enables the owners to have a greater understanding
of how their dog learns and to teach them new tasks
using conditioned reinforcement, for example: Jumping
through a hoop, running through a tunnel or fetching
the post and tidying toys away.
We encourage trick training of useful tasks and fun
for the dogs as well as doggy yoga, which encourages
stretching and flexibility before lots of fast movement
activities. I have attended an animal massage course
to learn to required skills to teach canine stretching
and massage.
